United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Jordan assumes duties and presents credentials

Amman, 21 March 2017 – The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Jordan, Mr. Anders Pedersen, presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, on 21 March 2017.

Prior to taking up the new position, Pedersen was the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Botswana. Before that, he was Chief of Staff at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) between 2010 and 2012, Director, Department for Democracy, Human Rights and Gender Equality also at Sida from 2008 to 2010; Chief, Methods in Development Cooperation Unit at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, 2007- 2008; and Secretary-General of The Four Nations Initiative on Governance and Management of the United Nations, Sweden in 2006-2007.

He has served with the United Nations as Coordinator of the Europe, North America and Central Asia Unit in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, 2004- 2006; Chief, United Nations Human Rights Office in Angola, 2003-2004; Chief, Human Rights Division, in Angola, 2001-2003.

Prior to that Pedersen held various positions in the Swedish Foreign Service such as First Secretary, Democratic Governance Coordinator, Embassy of Sweden in Zambia, 1998-2001; Second Secretary, Permanent Mission of Sweden in Geneva, 1996-1998; First Secretary, Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Sweden, 1995-1996; and First Secretary, Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, 1992-1995.

Pedersen was a Human Rights Legal Adviser to the United Nations Mission in El Salvador, 1991- 1992; Associate Protection Officer, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in El Salvador, 1990-1991, and Associate Protection Officer in UNHCR in Honduras, 1989-1990. Early on in his career he was a Legal Adviser at the Secretariat of the Swedish Red Cross in Stockholm, 1987-1989.  Pedersen holds a Degree of Masters of Law (LL.M.).
